Beauty Food Junkie’s Easy-Made Cold Brew
Ingredients
- 1 cup pre-ground coffee
- 4 cups cold, filtered water (for steeping)
- 2 to 6 cups additional cold, filtered water (optional; for diluting after steeping, based on your preferred strength)
Equipment Needed
- Brewing Container: A pitcher or container with a pour spout and an airtight lid to keep your brew fresh
- Spoon: A long-handled spoon, perfect for stirring and ensuring all grounds are saturated
- Strainer: A medium-sized mesh strainer, used to separate the coffee grounds from the liquid
- Filters: Standard coffee filters, used to line the strainer and funnel for a cleaner, smoother brew
- Collection Bowl: A deep, medium-sized bowl with a pour spout to catch the strained cold brew
- Funnel: Used to neatly pour the strained cold brew back into your brewing container without spills
Instructions
1. Add Coffee to the Brewing Container
Place your pre-ground coffee into a brewing container or pitcher with both a pour spout and an airtight lid.
2. Saturate with Water
Slowly pour 4 cups of cold, filtered water over the coffee grounds. Gently stir with a long-handled spoon until all the grounds are fully saturated.
3. Steep in the Refrigerator
Secure the lid to keep out any contaminants, then place the container in the refrigerator. Allow the coffee to steep for approximately 12 hours.
4. Prepare for the First Strain
Once steeping is complete, line a medium-sized mesh strainer with a coffee filter and position it over a deep, medium-sized bowl with a pour spout.
5. Strain to Remove Grounds
Carefully pour the steeped coffee through the filter-lined strainer to remove most of the grounds. This first straining step helps create a smoother, cleaner brew. Let gravity do the work and replace the filter if it becomes clogged.
6. Second Strain for an Ultra-Smooth Brew and Bottling
Rinse and thoroughly dry your brewing container. Insert a fresh coffee filter into a funnel and position it over the clean container. Slowly pour the strained coffee through the filter-lined funnel to remove any remaining fine particles. Replace the filter if it begins to clog. Once fully filtered, seal the container.
7. Dilute to Taste (Optional)
Cold brew concentrate can be strong. Before serving, taste and adjust by adding 2 to 6 cups of additional cold, filtered water based on your strength preference. Start with 2 cups, stir well, taste, and continue adding water until your desired flavor is reached. Stir thoroughly before serving or storing.
8. Enjoy & Store
Pour yourself a glass over ice to enjoy immediately or take it on the go. Store any remaining cold brew in the refrigerator and enjoy within a few days.
